Diogo Marques of Setubal, Portugal, has signed to join the men’s tennis program at Stetson for the 2020-21 academic and athletic year, the school announced Friday.
A transfer from East Carolina, Marques enters Stetson as a redshirt sophomore and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
“Diogo is a proven leader, on and off the court,” coach Christophe Noblet said. “His results speak for themselves, but more importantly he shares our team core values wholeheartedly. He will have an immediate impact on this program.”
Marques transferred to Stetson after East Carolina announced in May that it was dropping men’s tennis. In his time with the Pirates, Marques won 35 singles matches at No. 1 between both fall and spring seasons. In doubles, he was 19-6 in dual-match play over the last two seasons, including 11-1 last spring.
East Carolina was 25-9 in Marques’ two seasons.
