Cubs’ Ian Happ uses movie scene to weigh in on MLB-MLBPA negotiations

Saturday, the MLB players union seemingly shut down further negotiations with the league on financial terms for a 2020 season.

In a statement, MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said efforts by the union to negotiate have “fallen upon deaf ears” and further dialogue would be “futile.” He ended his statement with “Tell us when and where” the players should report to resume play.

Later Saturday evening, Cubs center fielder Ian Happ weighed in on the situation, tweeting the same “Tell us when and where” declaration. He accompanied that with a gif of a classic Daniel Stern scene from the movie “Rookie of the Year.”

Where discussions between the two sides go next is unclear, but what’s certain is the players are ready to “play some ball.”
