Chelsea transfer news: Van Ginkel to leave on loan despite contract | Football | Sport

The midfielder found more regular game time with PSV, helping clinch two domestic titles during his two and a half years there.

But such a key role looks unlikely at Stamford Bridge as Lampard already has Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Billy Gilmour, Mason Mount and Ross Barkley competing for three starting spots.

Upon signing his contract extension, Van Ginkel said: “I am proud that, despite the fact that I have been out for such a long time, I have been able to renew my contract. That the club wants to continue with me gives me a boost.

“There is confidence and despite the fact that I have been standing aside for a while due to injuries and some serious setbacks, the club apparently sees it in me.”
